Sanitation and hygiene are essential to health, survival and development. Many countries face the challenge of providing adequate sanitation for their entire population, putting people at risk for water, sanitation, and personal hygiene (WASH) related diseases.

Worldwide, an estimated 2.4 billion people lack basic sanitation facilities (more than 32% of the world’s population). It has also been described as the ability to use facilities for the safe disposal of human waste (feces and urine), as well as the ability to maintain its conditions through services such as garbage collection, industrial/hazardous waste management, and wastewater treatment.

Sanitizers appear in two forms: leave on and rinse off. Same like detergents, rinse-off sanitizers should be completely rinsed from surfaces prior to operational start-up, and label directions should be followed for dry time for leave-on sanitizers.

  • Confirmation

Confirmation should be aimed through both protein swabs and visual inspection. Furthermore, MDA advises that all cleaning and sanitizing procedures be frequently monitored for effectiveness, through pre-operational inspections or audits and microbial sampling of the environment and food-contact surfaces. Confirmation criteria should include that no visible residue be present and micro counts be within acceptable limits.
