17 Aug McDonald’s BTS Meal Collaboration Yields Charity By Fans: Successful Fundraising of Rp200 Million
McDonald’s has been cooking up a storm when they release the BTS Meal worldwide on June 2021. This partnership is highly successful as the cashier is always full in line, lots of people were talking about it, and the entire stock of BTS Meal is completely sold out just in 1-2 days. The sale was at all time high, it was bought by diehard fans, curious customers, and those who buy the item unironically. Behind the business success, there was a wholesome story behind the collaboration where fans donate to a crowdfunding for every meal they bought.
The BTS Meal Craze
The Bangtan Boys, or BTS for short, is one of the most popular South Korean idol group out there, consist of seven male members that started their debut in 2013. In 2021, BTS decided to form a partnership between themselves and the fast food giant McDonald’s. As the partnership result, the special limited edition item, BTS Meal is made. It was released in the United States, Canada and Brazil on May 26th. Later on, it was released worldwide to nealy 50 countries (except China, Japan, and Pakistan due to political reasons).
Considering the excessive amount of loyal fans, the BTS ARMY across the globe, BTS Meal is sold in a heartbeat. The meal itself consist of 9 pieces Chicken McNuggets, Medium Fries, and Coke, accompanied with two new dipping sauces, Sweet Chili and Cajun. The packages of the meal is one of a kind, white and purple colour along with BTS logo imprinted. Crazy story, some of the customer keep the package, clean it, and resell it, surprisingly someone did buy it. Despite the business success, BTS Meal yields wholesome story of sharing.

BTS Meal and Indonesian ARMY
Indonesian ARMY held a fundraising, for every BTS Meal they bought, an ARMY donates money to charity for Gojek drivers (online food delivery person) that helped them deliver their purchases of the special edition McDonald’s menu. The fundraising is done through Indonesian legitimate fundraising web site “Kitabisa”, with the end target of Rp107 million by June 13th, four days after the BTS Meal arrived in Indonesia (June 13th was the anniversary of BTS, this fundraising is perhaps how the ARMY celebrates it).
Impressively, 3 days before the deadline, the fundraising already raised over Rp151 million beyond the initial goal. Later at the end of the deadline, the total sum of the money has reached Rp200 Million, nearly double of the initial goal. Another wholesome story, one day before the release of BTS Meal, Indonesian ARMY warned each other not to be upset if their orders took a long time to arrive, reminding themselves how hard it would be for the delivery persons to wait in a long line and their struggle to acquire the BTS Meal.
Indonesian ARMY also advising each other to give a handful amount of tip for the online drivers as they hand over the BTS Meal, to reward them for their hardwork and to show gratitude. It was started by one person, andd then whole ARMY in Indonesia give sizable tips for their driver who’s delivering BTS Meal for them. The crowdfunded money that we menntioned above, will be donated to the Gojek drivers. Who knows business partnership can be very useful for the economy and the satisfaction of each party involved.

BTS Meal and Malaysian ARMY
Meanwhile in Malaysia, ARMYs were showing their gratitude by donating BTS Meal itself to feed every medical personnel they can find. Malaysian ARMY donate 274 package of BTS Meals in total, to pay respect to all medical personnnel whose in a middle of a battle with coronavirus. The meals were sent to Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), and a couple of hospitals. 99 packages were sent to University of Malaya Medical Centre for the medical personnels to eat, a form of gratitute from the BTS Army of Malaysia.
25 sets of BTS Meal is sent to Rumah Sakit Universiti Sains Malaysia (Malaysian University of Science Hospital) located in Kota Bharu of Kelantan rural state, dedicated for the staffs and patients. The second wave of BTS Meal donation was sent to the Quarantine Centre at MAEPS for the medical vanguards, about 150 boxes of the meals were sent that day. A lot of things is accomplished by this one partnership, McDonald’s is getting richer, and state economy is boosted. everyone is treated equal, BTS Fans got their meals, and they contribute what they can.
